Dear Colleague,
Welcome to Verra’s February Newsletter! Since our last newsletter, we have made further progress on the various priority areas under the New Era for Verra initiative.
- We are taking the next steps on developing version 5 of the VCS Program and have just published the comments we received during our 2023 high-level consultation, along with our responses. We sincerely thank everyone who took the time to provide input.
- We have started to publish the average processing times for project review requests to increase transparency around the project review process, and we are providing stakeholders with target service-level agreements (SLAs) to establish clear performance benchmarks regarding project review times.
- We are advancing our work on several VCS methodologies through revisions of existing methodologies and the development of new ones. Please see below for individual announcements about this work.
Verra also submitted a comment letter to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) as part of the ongoing dialogue regarding potential regulatory efforts for voluntary carbon markets.
Lastly, we shared that an innovative plastic waste reduction-linked bond—recently announced by the World Bank, Citibank, and Plastic Collective—will leverage Plastic Credits to provide returns to its investors. This demonstrates a novel pathway for how financial instruments can support the scaling up of plastic waste reduction activities.
