The climate crisis is urgent, and it requires that we take bold action today. Verra is a global nonprofit organization at the center of these efforts. As the world’s leading standards setter for climate action and sustainable development, we drive catalytic action in this space using best-in-class standards and methodologies. We boldly embrace market drivers as a solution to our climate crisis and enable impact-based finance to facilitate immediate and measurable climate, biodiversity, and community benefits for both people and the planet.

We create frameworks and develop methodologies that enable projects to assess the impact of their efforts to mitigate the detrimental impacts of some of the biggest environmental problems, and we manage the credible and rigorous assessment of these efforts.

We then certify projects and issue credits to projects based on their impact; the sale of these credits allows projects to sustain and scale their activities.

Every credit issued represents positive change and every credit sold enables a better future. While we receive a fee for our services that these projects depend on, we cannot do it alone. These projects are essential to solving our global crises. Funding is critical in order to accelerate and scale material global climate impact.
Woman and man planting

This work is complex. It’s ambitious. And it’s only possible with your support.

Make a one-time gift or become a recurring donor. Every act of generosity moves us closer to a future that is sustainable for people and the planet.

Why Your Donation Matters

Your support is needed now more than ever. Be part of the solution.

Verra is a mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to building climate and environmental markets that work for everyone. Our projects address the biggest environmental issues at scale through a variety of methods—including reforestation, seagrass and mangrove restoration, coal phase-out energy transition, biodiversity conservation, plastic collection and recycling, and improving agricultural practices—bringing revenue to the communities because of their positive impact.

Through the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program alone, Verra has issued over 1.3 billion carbon credits, representing more than 1.3 billion tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions reduced or removed.

Whether you are an individual, a company, or a philanthropic entity/organization, your donations help us build and evolve programs that make incredible projects possible and advance market-based approaches for a better future for all.

While program fees sustain our core operations, donations are essential for fueling innovation, evolving technology, and building the infrastructure that enable climate and environmental markets to succeed.

Funding Opportunity Spotlights

Scope 3 Support

Verra’s Scope 3 Standard Program will enable companies to take impactful and credible value-chain climate action. By offering a consistent approach to addressing value chain (supply chain) emissions—which often represent more than 75% of total corporate emissions—the program fills a critical market gap, helping companies scale up efforts to mitigate their carbon footprint.

Private sector investment is needed to advance activities that help limit global warming to 1.5°C. Verra now invites additional sponsors to support the development of this program.

This is a great opportunity to demonstrate real climate leadership and catalyze corporate climate action!

Methodology Support

At the core of Verra’s mission is empowering project developers with resources needed to create effective, scalable solutions that address climate change. We provide industry-leading methodologies and comprehensive frameworks that support the design and implementation for a diverse range of projects—from deforestation, to improving agricultural practices, to addressing plastic waste, to achieving gender equality. These projects not only combat climate change but also enhance biodiversity, protect critical ecosystems, and uplift local communities.

Verra is looking for stakeholders interested in providing funding to cover costs associated with developing priority methodologies for the VCS Program.

Stakeholders interested in supporting this critical work by funding VCS methodology development are encouraged to contact methodologies@verra.org and indicate the specific methodology development identification number of interest.
