Inactive Methodologies

Verra reviews active methodologies to ensure (1) that they continue to reflect best practices, scientific consensus, evolving market conditions, and ongoing technical developments, (2) that they are consistent with current VCS Program rules and requirements, and (3) use appropriate and current methodological procedures. These reviews are conducted at least every five years since a methodology’s last update or review.

As a result of a review, Verra may revise or inactivate a methodology. Verra may also inactivate a methodology where no projects using the methodology have been registered within five years of the last update or review.

When Verra inactivates a methodology, a grace period may be provided for projects that are using the methodology and that are under development or validation and will be specified on the methodology’s webpage. Project proponents may continue to apply an inactivated version of a methodology, module, or tool until their next crediting period renewal or baseline reassessment, provided the request for registration, crediting period renewal, or verification with baseline reassessment was submitted within the grace period.
Information on previous versions and their associated grace periods is available in the “Development History” section of the respective methodology’s webpage.

The list below contains all methodologies that are currently inactive. Unless otherwise specified, stakeholders may request reactivation of an inactive methodology by submitting a methodology idea note as per the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process (PDF).
