Inactive Modules and Tools

Verra periodically reviews active modules and tools in the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program to ensure they continue to reflect best practices, scientific consensus, market conditions, and technical developments. These reviews are conducted at least every five years.

As a result of a review, Verra may inactivate a module or tool. If Verra inactivates a revised version of a module or tool, the previous version also becomes inactive. Inactive modules or tools may be reactivated, whereas permanently excluded modules or tools may not.

When Verra inactivates a module or tool, information about grace periods for continued usage of that module or tool will be provided. If the current version of a module or tool is active but previous versions have been inactivated, information on the previous versions can be found under the “Development History” section on the specific module or tool’s webpage.

The list below contains all modules or tools that are currently inactive.

Project proponents who are interested in using an inactive module or tool may send a reactivation request to methodologies@verra.org. The request should include the following:

  • A list of projects (you may consider including similar ongoing projects from other developers)
  • The estimated amount of annual emission reductions from each project
  • A justification demonstrating that no active module or tool could be used for the project(s)
  • Status of the implementation of the project activities
