VERRA STAFF – SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS

Wednesday, June 26

  • Wednesday, June 26, 4:15–5:15 pm CST
  • Verra staff: Daniela Herrera, manager, REDD+, Natural Climate Solutions

This breakout session will explore Natural Climate Solutions, which have the potential to deliver one third of the emission reductions needed to reach global climate goals. However, the current policy landscape still falls short in supporting the critical investments necessary to help these solutions achieve their full potential. The voluntary carbon market is a crucial tool for closing this finance gap. Join this session to hear from leading voices in the area of Natural Climate Solutions; they will share what is needed for these solutions to help countries achieve their goals under the Paris Agreement.

Thursday, June 27

  • Thursday, June 27, 10:10–11:10 am CST
  • Verra staff: Susana Vélez Haller, regional representative, Latin America and the Caribbean

Innovative regulation in Colombia and Chile has paved the way carbon markets to support national climate ambitions. Both governments have adopted and implemented rules that allow for the use of carbon credits in domestic carbon tax schemes. This has the dual benefit of funding in-country emission reduction and removal projects and providing businesses with flexibility in complying with tax regulations. In this session, government representatives, market participants, and regulated businesses will report on their experiences and share lessons learned.
