Santiago and Washington, DC – 31 May 2023 | Verra and FOREDOR announced today that they will work together to develop an educational course on carbon markets, with an emphasis on the forestry sector. Verra is the nonprofit behind the world’s leading carbon crediting program, and FOREDOR is a Chilean company dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management. The two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding this month to kickstart the initiative.
This effort is part of Verra’s initiative to increase the knowledge of diverse stakeholders in the carbon markets and to provide insight into the development of projects that generate carbon credits and certification processes under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program. FOREDOR’s experience in the forestry sector in Chile will provide an on-the-ground perspective on the barriers and opportunities that the carbon market represents for the sector.
At the end of this course, participants will have the ability to develop the necessary activities to achieve certification of forestry projects under the VCS Program. They will also have a comprehensive understanding of carbon markets (voluntary and compliance), how they work and the carbon credit transaction processes.
The course will be attended by Verra professionals, government representatives and key market players. The participation of different carbon market actors will bring a diversity of views on carbon markets, facilitating discussions and knowledge sharing.
“We have designed this course to provide all the tools that a developer needs to enter into commercial agreements in the carbon market,” said Pablo Cruz, Director of FOREDOR. “It is a significant challenge because the subject involves so many institutions and actors, and is always subject to international revisions that keep adjusting.”
Course Dates and Registration
Registration: 8 June to 29 July 2023
Start Date: 8 August 2023
