Dear Colleague,
Welcome to Verra’s March Newsletter! We enjoyed seeing many of you at North American Carbon World this week. Next month, we look forward to connecting with stakeholders at a number of other events, including the European Climate Summit (external), the Fourth Session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) on Plastic Pollution (external), Corporate Investments into Forestry & Biodiversity (external), GenZero Climate Summit (external), and more.
We are also pleased to share several ways in which we have been scaling our impact, engaging more actively with our stakeholders, and achieving operational excellence to effectively advance climate action and sustainable development.
- Joe Dell’Orfano has joined the organization as its first chief technology officer (CTO). In this role, Joe will work closely with Verra’s leadership team to spearhead the organization’s digital transformation and technology efforts as a catalyst for high-quality and sustainable growth.
- To support the evolution of Verra’s efforts to integrate sustainable development across all its standards programs, Verra is relaunching its Sustainable Development Advisory Group (SDAG) and invites interested stakeholders to apply.
- Verra has released a revised version of VM0045 Methodology for Improved Forest Management Using Dynamic Matched Baselines from National Forest Inventories. This revision enables projects using VM0045 to differentiate between Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) based on greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions and VCUs based on carbon dioxide removals. Additionally, proponents selecting VM0045 can now apply the respective mitigation outcome label to the VCUs that their projects generate.
- We have extended the deadline for testing our new Digital Project Submission Tool, which enables the efficient processing, reviewing, and registering of carbon projects. If you are interested in testing this tool, please reach out by March 31, 2024.
- Finally, in an effort to contribute to the discussion about the role of financial regulators in the carbon markets, we want to share that Verra has submitted comments on the December 2023 International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) Voluntary Carbon Markets Consultation Report.
