Welcome to Verra’s March Newsletter!
As our calendars fill with carbon market-related events, Verra staff appreciates the opportunity to connect with many of you in person.
Next week, we look forward to attending North American Carbon World (NACW) in San Diego, hosted by the Climate Action Reserve. Verra CEO Mandy Rambharos will be there to speak on the maturation of market standards and oversight. We will also have a booth there, so please stop by and say hello!
Also at NACW, we will host a workshop on “Bridging the Gap: Scope 3 Standards, Interventions, and Integrity,” which will focus on intervention-based accounting for Scope 3 emissions. This important topic closely relates to the upcoming launch of our Scope 3 Standard (S3S) Program. We expect to release the program, which will fill a current critical market gap for a consistent approach to addressing Scope 3 emissions, in Q3 2026.
Recently, we celebrated the issuance of the first carbon credits with the Core Carbon Principles (CCP) label under our clean cookstoves methodology. The CCP-labeled credits were issued to the UpEnergy – Social and Climate Impact Programme – Nigeria project (Verra Project 2673). We are proud about this important milestone for the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) methodology VM0050 Energy Efficiency and Fuel-Switch Measures in Cookstoves, v1.0, which was one of the first cookstove methodologies to be approved by the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) as meeting the industry benchmark.

Project Spotlight
Boomitra Grassland Restoration in Northern Mexico
Ranchers across northern Mexico are turning to regenerative grazing practices as a way to restore degraded grasslands, strengthen resilience to climate stress, and secure new sources of income.
Boomitra Grassland Restoration in Northern Mexico (Verra Project 2887) brings together 158 ranching communities across approximately four million acres of grasslands spanning the Chihuahuan and Sonoran deserts. Operated by Boomitra, a global soil carbon project developer, the project uses Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) methodology VM0042 Improved Agricultural Land Management, v2.0 to track the soil carbon sequestered as a result of regenerative grazing and land management practices.
In early 2026, the project reached a historic milestone with the approval of more than three million soil carbon credits. When fully issued, this will represent the largest soil carbon issuance to date; the majority of the carbon finance will return to the ranchers, enabling them to continue scaling their long-term restoration work.
