Welcome to Verra’s October newsletter!

It was good to connect with many of you at Climate Week NYC, and we look forward to seeing many of you (again) at COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye! Verra CEO Mandy Rambharos will be attending, along with several other team members. Visit our dedicated webpage for information on our events and speaking engagements, which will continue to be updated as details are confirmed.

We are excited to share that Verra’s carbon capture and storage (CCS) methodology and its accompanying modules have been approved by the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) as meeting the Core Carbon Principles (CCPs), a clear market signal that credits generated under this methodology are of the highest integrity. This update adds a major technology-based approach to Verra’s growing portfolio of CCP-approved methodologies.

In addition, we recently approved the first credits under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) methodology VM0051 Improved Management in Rice Production Systems. This is an important milestone for VM0051, which adopts the latest scientific principles to ensure the robust quantification of greenhouse gas emission reductions resulting from such rice cultivation practices.

To hear more updates from Verra, please join us next Wednesday, October 28, at 11:00 am ET for our fourth and final stakeholder update webinar of 2026, “Fall 2026: Program and Process Updates.”

Congratulations to the Brightly – Reducing Food Loss and Waste project! Registered with the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program, it recently became the first project to generate credits approved for issuance under Verra’s VM0046 Methodology for Reducing Food Loss and Waste.

Brightly works with 28 nonprofit food rescue organizations across all 50 U.S. states to keep edible food out of landfills and distribute it to people in need. Together, these organizations rescue approximately 5 billion pounds of food a year, addressing food insecurity while avoiding methane emissions associated with food waste.

The project (Verra Project 4711) uses VM0046 to quantify its greenhouse gas emission reductions and generate carbon credits. This creates a new source of financing for organizations that have traditionally relied heavily on grants and donations, helping them invest in the people, vehicles, refrigeration, and infrastructure they need to recover more food and reach more communities.
