Please note:

This methodology is applicable to project activities that use CO2 as a feedstock in the production of concrete. Such project activities reduce greenhouse gas emissions in two ways:

  1. Project activities incorporate waste CO2 into concrete, which lowers emissions by capturing gas that would have otherwise been emitted to the atmosphere, and permanently embedding it in concrete.
  2. Project activities lower the amount of cement required in concrete production compared to traditional production processes, further reducing emissions because cement production is highly energy and carbon-intensive.

This methodology is applicable globally and utilizes a positive list for determining additionality.

VM0043 Methodology for CO2 Utilization in Concrete Production, v1.1

Status: Active since December 23 2024
Mitigation Outcome Label Eligibility: Reductions and Removals
Summary of Changes:

  • Integrating a discount factor to account for uncertainty related to the displacement of the production of virgin materials caused by project activities (in alignment with the August 2023 VCS Program updates)
  • Expanding the methodology’s scope to allow its application to pre-cast products
  • Updating the approach to define, categorize and test individual mix designs
  • Updating the testing procedure to determine baseline cement quantity · Incorporating a correction regarding the calculation of baseline emissions, issued on October 9, 2023
