Verra has published Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Methodology Revision VMR0012 Production of Geopolymer Cement, v1.0. This is a revision to the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) methodology AM0125: Production of geopolymer cement, v1.1 (external).
AM0125, which was released in March 2024, is applicable to the production of low-carbon cement that displaces traditional Portland cement in concrete. VMR0012 is a revision of AM0125 that strengthens its integrity by inserting a discount factor for upstream emission reductions that result from reduced use of virgin materials, as per the VCS Methodology Requirements, v4.4 (PDF).
The publication of VMR0012 expands the VCS Program’s impact by enabling a broader range of projects in the cement sector to generate carbon credits and access climate finance.
