This tool provides guidance for the development, calibration, and validation of data-driven modeling methods to estimate SOC stocks in a spatially explicit manner, including model uncertainty estimations. The tool allows for using a wide range of remote sensing technologies, geospatial data, and statistical methods demonstrated through peer review to predict soil organic carbon content. The tool is intended to be used along with VM0042 Methodology for Improved Agricultural Land Management, VM0032 Methodology for Adoption of Sustainable Grassland through Adjustment of Fire and Grazing, and potentially other methodologies that quantify SOC stocks in agricultural lands.
Please note:
- On October 16 2025, Verra released Corrections and Clarifications to VT0014, v1.0 (PDF). All projects using VT0014, 1.0 must apply these corrections and clarifications.
- Verra is inviting applications from qualified Independent Modeling Experts (IMEs) to support the assessment of digital soil mapping (DSM) use with VT0014. For more information on the scope of work, deliverables, timelines, and requisite experience and qualifications, please see the Request for Applications (PDF). Please submit proposals to methodologies@verra.org, using the following documents:
- Application Response Template (docx) – (Annex 1 of the RFA)
- Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form (docx) – (Annex 2 of the RFA)
