Sectoral Scope

14. Forestry and other land use (forests, wetlands, and grasslands)

This module (VMD0064) is used with VCS methodology VM0035, Improved Forest Management through Reduced Impact Logging. It accounts for GHG emission reductions from reduced impact logging (RIL-C) practices in tropical moist forests of southern and eastern Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico, covering improved felling and skidding. It sets baseline impact parameters and additionality benchmarks for each operation, and provides procedures for monitoring project performance against them. The module applies only to the southern and eastern Yucatán Peninsula logging landscape. Projects must be on ejido (communal) land logged by a Community Forestry Enterprise with government authorization and an approved forest management plan, using a selective silvicultural system. It does not apply where the project involves a deliberate reduction in harvest levels or where felled tree density is below 5 trees/ha.
