14. Forestry and other land use (forests, wetlands, and grasslands)
This module (VMD0063) is used with VM0035 Improved Forest Management through Reduced Impact Logging. It accounts for GHG emission reductions from reduced impact logging (RIL-C) practices in natural forests in northern Republic of the Congo, covering improved felling, skidding and hauling. It sets baseline impact parameters and additionality benchmarks for each operation, and provides procedures for monitoring project performance against them. The module applies only to the northern Congo logging landscape (departments of Congo-Oubangui, Cuvette, Cuvette-Ouest, Likouala and Sangha). Projects must be in a government-authorized concession with an approved forest management plan, using a selective silvicultural system. It does not apply where the project involves a deliberate reduction in harvest levels or where felled tree density is below 0.25 trees/ha.
