VM0038 v1.0 applies to the charging of electric vehicles (EVs) through EV charging systems. GHG emission reductions are achieved through the displacement of emissions from conventional fossil fuel vehicles used for passenger and freight transportation as a result of the electricity delivered by the project chargers. The methodology is globally applicable.
VMD0049 v1.0 is a module used in conjunction with VM0038 and determines the positive list for additionality.
The proposed revision to VM0038 and VMD0049 update the market penetration levels of individual countries, which are assessed against the required 5% threshold. Further, the default values “Applicable Fleet’s Electricity Consumption (AFEC)” and “Miles Per Gallon (MPG)” will be updated to reflect recent development in the sector.
SUMMARY OF DEVELOPMENT
The review of VM0038 and VMD0049 is in accordance with Section 5 of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process, 4.3 (PDF), whereby Verra conducts a periodic review of each methodology within five years of its last update or review.
The initial review will be led by Climate Neutral Business Network (opens on external site), following the process for reviewing approved VCS methodologies, per Section 5.3.7 of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process, 4.3 (PDF). The consultant is expected to review the methodology and reassess the standardized method to reflect current data before submitting a report documenting the reevaluation. The report will assist Verra in making the determination if the methodology and module require a revision.
