The proposed module applies to select projects applying the Methodology Framework for Carbon Capture and Storage. It applies to project activities that store CO2 by injecting water-dissolved CO2 into reactive, igneous rock. The proposed module quantifies the net amount of CO2 chemically bound through mineralization and that remains as a dissolved phase in the reservoir fluid with the ongoing mineralization process.
SUMMARY OF DEVELOPMENT
- The module was proposed by South Pole Carbon Asset Management Ltd. and Perspectives Climate Group as part of the CCS+ Initiative under an older version of the the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process (MDRP) (PDF).
- In December 2024, the development of this methodology was put on hold.
- In March 2026, Verra reassessed the priority of methodologies under development and decided to keep this proposal on hold.
- Verra will reassess whether to resume the development of this methodology in Q3 2027.
