Verra has opened a public consultation on a major revision to VM0041 Methodology for the Reduction of Enteric Methane Emissions from Ruminants through the Use of Feed Ingredients, v2.0 in the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program. The revised methodology would be published as version 3.0 of VM0041. The consultation will run from October 8 through November 7, 2025.

VM0041 is globally applicable and pertains to project activities that reduce methane emissions from ruminant livestock. It focuses on introducing feed ingredients into animal diets, thereby mitigating enteric methane emissions and contributing to sustainable livestock management.

The proposed revision includes the following:

  • Updated approach for the additionality assessment
  • Expanded guidance on applicability conditions
  • Updated project boundary
  • Updated quantification of greenhouse gas emission reductions
  • Updated monitoring requirements for baseline and project emissions

The proposed revisions are intended to align VM0041 with the requirements of the Core Carbon Principles (CCP) Assessment Framework of the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM).
