14. Agriculture, forestry, and other land use (AFOLU)
This tool provides a standardized method to quantify and distinguish carbon dioxide removals (removals) from greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions (reductions) within improved forest management (IFM) projects developed using the following methodologies:
- VM0003 Methodology for Improved Forest Management Through Extension of Rotation Age (all versions)
- VM0005 Methodology for Conversion of Low-Productive to High-Productive Forest, v1.2
- VM0012 Improved Forest Management in Temperate and Boreal Forests (LtPF) (all versions)
- VM0034 Canadian Forest Carbon Offset Methodology (all versions)
The parameters that are used across the four methodologies (VM0003, VM0005, VM0012, and VM0034) are standardized to quantify reductions and removals. The VT0015 parameters are listed with their equivalents from the four applicable methodologies.
The Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) that result from reductions or removals are calculated without modifying the total number of VCUs generated by the project (which is calculated using the applied methodology).
A quantification spreadsheet with the equations is provided below under “Additional Resources” and may be used to quantify reductions and removals.
