Additional methodologies approved for use in Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program are now available in digital form through the Digital Project Submission Tool on the Verra Project Hub. As part of Verra’s multiyear digitalization initiative, this release is a key component of enhancing the project registration process.

For a streamlined project submission process, Verra encourages proponents to use the digital versions of methodologies as they become available. These methodologies facilitate the accurate creation of project documents and monitoring reports by using templates to collect all the project details required for a given methodology. The Digital Project Submission Tool includes built-in abilities to perform calculations for a given methodology and to check the consistency and completeness of project data. It also enables validation/verification bodies to easily access records, create reports, and submit them for Verra’s review.

The newly digitalized methodologies are as follows:

A note about renewable energy methodologies: Although Verra excluded most renewable energy projects from the scope of the VCS Program when it launched version 4 of the program in 2019, the list above includes two renewable energy methodologies. The reasons are as follows: (1) Verra still holds that the targeted application of carbon finance in least developed countries is crucial to overcoming barriers that renewable projects face in some jurisdictions, and (2) projects that registered or pipeline-listed before the scope change took effect are still eligible to use these methodologies in the VCS Program until the end of their current crediting period.

These methodologies join the digitalized methodologies released between August and October 2024. Verra will continue to update its full list of digitalized methodologies as new methodologies are added to the Verra Project Hub.

All digitalized versions of methodologies undergo extensive testing and piloting before being made available on the Verra Project Hub. Additional digitalized methodologies are currently undergoing User Acceptance Testing.

Accessing Digital Versions of Methodologies

All digitalized methodologies and tools are available on the Verra Project Hub. Stakeholders with access to the Digital Project Submission Tool (under the menu item “Projects”) will automatically have access to all available digitalized methodologies.

Stakeholders who do not have access to the Verra Project Hub can access the digitalized methodologies by submitting a request through the Stakeholder Contact Form.
