Verra has reinstated eight carbon projects in China following the successful conclusion of the quality control reviews (QCRs) it initiated in December.
The projects span afforestation, reforestation, and grassland management activities, and were placed on hold as part of a broader review Verra launched across 35 registered natural climate solutions (NCS) projects in China. The QCR process required the projects’ respective validation/verification bodies (VVBs) to contact the relevant local Chinese authorities directly and determine whether valid government authorization existed for each project.
In each of these eight cases, local authorities affirmed their authorization of the projects, and the VVBs submitted government-approved project designs as supporting evidence.
On the basis of this documentation, Verra has closed the QCRs and reinstated the projects on the Verra Registry. The projects are now able to proceed with verification and request the issuance of credits in the normal course.
| Project ID | Project Name | Type | VCUs Issued | VCUs Retired |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1361 | Reforestation Project in Qinghai Province 2012 | ARR | ~30k | ~100 |
| 1826 | Qinghai Afforestation Project | ARR | ~80k | ~80k |
| 1832 | Haidong Afforestation Project | ARR | ~90k | ~90k |
| 2391 | Gansu Tianshui Afforestation Project | ARR | ~0.1m | ~0.1m |
| 2451 | Shanxi Loufan Afforestation Project | ARR | ~0.2m | ~7k |
| 2748 | Zhangye Improved Grassland Management Project | ALM | ~2m | ~2m |
| 2852 | Xinjiang Burqin Improved Grassland Management Project | ALM | ~0.7m | ~0.7m |
| 4102 | Damao Banner Sustainable Grassland Management Project | ALM | ~0.1m | ~0.1m |
These reinstatements reflect the effective operation of Verra’s QCR process, which is designed to distinguish projects that meet Verra’s requirements from those that do not. In these eight cases, that determination has been made with confidence.
The remaining QCRs initiated in December 2025 are ongoing. Verra continues to work through the project reviews and will provide further updates as those processes conclude.
