Verra has announced that three data service providers (DSPs) are now vetted to provide stocking index (SI) data that establish performance benchmarks for projects using Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) methodology VM0047 Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation. Making the list of vetted DSPs available offers the opportunity for an efficient selection process, which in turn will streamline projects’ registration and verification processes. Projects can also opt to use their own data for performance benchmarks from DSPs not listed.

The initial vetted DSPs are the following:

  • Sylvera
  • Kanop
  • Chloris Geospatial

During the vetting process, Verra confirmed that the DSPs’ approaches to providing SI data meets VM0047’s performance benchmark requirements.

Project developers can now leverage vetted third-party DMRV providers to efficiently generate standardized datasets using satellite imagery, AI-driven models, and field-calibrated data at scale. These datasets can be seamlessly uploaded directly to the Verra Project Hub, enhancing the speed and consistency of project data management.

VM0047 quantifies carbon removals from activities that establish, increase, or restore vegetative cover in non-forest areas or enhance forest carbon stocks in areas with existing forest cover. The methodology’s area-based quantification approach uses a SI as a relative measure of vegetation change. The SI is derived from remote sensing indices and used to compare observed changes in the project area and in matched controls areas that represent projects’ performance benchmarks.

Versions 1.0 and 1.1 of VM0047 have been approved by the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) as meeting the Core Carbon Principles (CCPs) criteria, the industry benchmark for carbon credit integrity.

Opportunity for Additional DSPs

Verra is accepting Expressions of Interest from additional third‑party DSPs with the capacity to support VM0047 and invites interested parties to complete the form below. DSPs that successfully pass Verra’s vetting process will then be included on the VM0047 webpage and in the Verra Project Hub.

Form

Note: A DSP’s completion of Verra’s vetting process does not guarantee acceptance of a project or approval of the data provided by this DSP for a specific project’s SI. Both projects and data will still be independently reviewed by Verra and a validation/verification body (VVB).

Application for Listed Data Service Providers under VM0047

Section 1. Organization Information

KYC Information

Section 2. Projects supported/planned to support (Optional)

Are you currently supporting or expecting to support projects? If so, how many and at what project stage?

Section 3. VM0047 Stocking Index (SI) – Minimum Requirements and Attestations

Please provide details about the technical specifications of the Stocking Index (SI) data product your organization plans to provide project proponents (PPs).

Note: Specific project level documentation may also be required during validation/verification as requested by the PP, Verra, or VVB.

3.1 Spatial Resolution

The SI dataset provided for projects must have final spatial resolution finer than 30 m × 30 m (i.e., pixel size ≤ 30 m) for all years provided. Describe your source data and processing steps that ensure the delivered SI maintains this resolution.

3.2 Temporal Resolution

The SI must be available at least annually, covering relevant baseline and monitoring years for the project. Describe the cadence at which the SI is produced and any constraints or gaps.

3.3 Seasonality Control

Optical imagery used to generate the SI should be constrained to a consistent seasonal window each year to limit phenology and atmospheric effects. Describe the seasonal window(s) and quality filters you apply.

3.4 Correlation with Aboveground Biomass (AGB)

Provide evidence that your SI (or equivalent metric) is correlated with AGB in the forest types or ecoregions you support. Indicate how you will demonstrate project‑specific correlation for validation (e.g., local plots, literature, cross‑validation).

Section 4. Service Commitments

Please confirm that your organization is willing and able to meet the following service requirements for any VM0047 project you support.

Section 5. Declaration

By submitting, the undersigned confirms that the information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge at the time of submission. Our organization understands that this submission is an initial information step only. Listing as a data service provider, if pursued, will be subject to a separate agreement with Verra and any additional due diligence Verra deems appropriate.

A representative will reach out to you shortly upon review of your submission.

Section 6. Disclaimer

Submission of this form does not create any obligation for Verra to review the submission, include any party on a listing, enter into discussions, or enter into any agreement. Verra may contact some, all, or none of the respondents at its discretion. If Verra decides to engage further, this may involve requests for additional information or additional assessments at Verra's discretion. Any listing would be subject to the execution of a definitive written agreement.

Organizations confirm the information submitted is accurate to the best of their knowledge at the time of submission. Unless expressly agreed in writing by Verra, submitted materials and information will not be treated as confidential. Organizations submit information voluntarily and at their own cost and risk, and Verra may modify or discontinue this initiative at any time without notice or liability.
