Verra is seeking a consultant to lead the revision of the VCS methodology VM0016 Recovery and Destruction of Ozone-Depleting Substances from Products, v1.1. This methodology quantifies the GHG emission reductions from the recovery and destruction of certain ozone-depleting substances (ODS) from products where a partial or total atmospheric release of ODS would occur without intervention.

ODS are potent greenhouse gases that significantly contribute to climate change. While the Montreal Protocol effectively controls the production and consumption of ODS, existing stockpiles and equipment remain at risk of venting or leaking these substances. In jurisdictions where no regulation exists that mandates the collection and destruction of ODS at end of lifetime, carbon crediting mechanisms have been a successful means of enabling ODS destruction projects, resulting in significant emission reductions.

As global policies for refrigerants and the phasing-out of ODS evolve, it is, therefore, essential to revise the methodology VM0016 Recovery and Destruction of Ozone-Depleting Substances from Products, v1.1. to reflect regulatory changes, adapt to changing market needs, and ensure that it continues to drive finance towards project activities that would not take place otherwise.

Please view the Request for Proposals: Revision of the VCS Methodology VM0016 Recovery and Destruction of Ozone-Depleting Substances from Products, v1.1 for further details, including the scope of work, deliverables, timelines, and requisite skills and qualifications to apply.

Please submit your proposal by 10 July 2022, to Christian Ehrat, Director, VCS Program Methodologies (cehrat@verra.org).
