Tool for Soil Sampling, Processing, and Analyzing Soil Organic Carbon Stock Changes

The proposed tool enables the standardization of procedures for land stratification, physical soil sampling, and laboratory analyses to ensure consistency in determining soil organic carbon (SOC) stock changes. The tool can be used with agricultural land management VCS methodologies that quantify SOC stock changes, such as VM0042 Methodology for Improved Agriculture Land Management.

The tool development was put on hold by Verra, as per Section 2.1.5 of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process, v4.2 (PDF). The decision was based on the proposal’s limited applicability. Verra is redesigning the planned content of the tool to integrate it into VM0042 through a major revision. A separate tool may be reactivated in the future if there is demand for common guidelines for a larger set of methodologies.
