The proposed new tool is intended to enable risk mapping for both deforestation and degradation, as well as accounting for reforestation.
Summary of Development
- The methodology was originally proposed by Terra Global Capital.
- On December 10, 2025, the development of this revision was put on hold per the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process (MDRP) (PDF).
- Verra will consider resuming the development once the following criteria are met:
- A VM0048 module addressing unplanned degradation and providing methodological guidance and procedures to produce the data necessary for using a tool such as the one proposed has been developed. Necessary data include jurisdictional activity data on forest degradation, and the corresponding uncertainty estimates.
- Verra will reassess whether to resume the development of this methodology in Q3 2026, as part of the development of the VM0048 module for unplanned degradation.
