Tool for Estimating Carbon Leakage from IFM Activities, v1.0

This tool generates carbon leakage factors appropriate for use on any Improved Forest Management (IFM) project that reduces harvest volumes, thereby creating the opportunity for leakage. Projects implementing IFM project activities that cause reductions in harvest volume from the project area are expected to use this tool to estimate carbon leakage. The tool accounts for leakage caused by the baseline agent (activity-shifting leakage) and other actors (market leakage).

The proposed tool is being developed by Verra and is currently at “Step 3: Draft Methodology Development” of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process (PDF).
