The proposed new methodology quantifies GHG emission reductions in global woody savannas from savanna fire management (SFM) projects that shift fire seasonality and/or reduce the total area burned. Reductions are achieved by implementing targeted early dry season (EDS) prescribed burns to avoid higher-intensity fires during the late dry season (LDS). The project activities covered under this methodology introduce a step-change in land management, fire prevention, and fire suppression practices, including prescribed ground and aerial burning and the establishment and maintenance of mechanical firebreaks for asset protection, fire management, and access.
