Revison to AM0009, Recovery and utilization of gas from oil fields that would otherwise be flared or vented

AM0009 (external) applies to project activities that recover and utilize the associated gas and/or gas-lift gas from oil fields. The proposed revision expands the scope to include avoided methane emissions from blowdown events that occur during natural gas production. Blowdown events occur when natural gas pipelines undergo repair or maintenance.

The methodology idea note was submitted by Clean Recompression (external). On April 2, 2025, the development of this methodology was put on hold. Verra will consider resuming the development once the following criteria are met:

• Resources are available to support the methodology development process
• The development process can be prioritized over other VCS methodology development work according to the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process, v4.4 (PDF).

Verra will reassess whether to resume the development of this methodology in Q1 2026.
