VT0011 provides procedures and requirements to estimate the grid emission factor of an electricity system. It is used in conjunction with the CDM TOOL07, v7.0. This tool is intended for use with VCS methodologies that require estimations of grid emission factors. It provides a calculation framework for projects that supply electricity to the grid and projects that increase electricity consumption from the grid.

Verra is considering the following revisions:

  • Develop VT0011 as a standalone tool that consolidates all procedures and requirements, removing the use of CDM TOOL07 in order to reduce complexity and improve usability
  • Merge VT0011 with VT0010, to streamline the procedures and avoid cross-referencing between the two tools
  • Incorporate simplified calculation procedures, where appropriate, and allow the use of existing databases
  • Improve the clarity and structure of the tool to improve usability
  • Update and improve quantification approaches, including the potential introduction of an hourly marginal emission factor
