VM0049 Carbon Capture and Storage is globally applicable and applies to project activities involving carbon capture and storage (CCS). It relies on modules for quantifying emissions related to the capture, transport, and storage segments of a CCS project. These modules can be combined, depending on the specific design of the CCS project or technologies implemented. VM0049 also relies on several tools that provide procedures for performing specific analyses for applicable projects.

VMD0059 CO2 Capture from Bioenergy calculates project and leakage emissions from bioenergy carbon capture and storage (BECCS) project activities eligible under VM0049. The module is globally applicable for projects capturing CO2 from bioenergy facilities that produce heat and power using sustainable biomass feedstocks and can be used in conjunction with the other modules under VM0049.

The proposed revision will expand the eligibility of VMD0059 to project activities that capture carbon dioxide from processes that convert biomass feedstocks into biofuels.
