M0416
The proposed revision incorporates the use of low-value, non-recyclable plastic waste as a substitute for virgin stone aggregate in concrete. The approach is analogous to VM0043’s treatment of CO2 mineralisation in concrete, with the key difference being that the fossil carbon is contained within the plastic itself, which is permanently encapsulated in the concrete matrix.
Summary of Development
On March 16, 2026, the development of this revision was rejected per the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process (PDF). After careful review, Verra determined that the proposal’s climate impact was not as high as that of other ideas. Verra will therefore not proceed this approach to the full methodology development process at this time.
