2. Concept Note
14. Agriculture, forestry, and other land use (AFOLU)
M0445
The proposed revision expands upon existing requirements under VM0042 Agricultural Land Management related to whether projects can use digital soil mapping (DSM) under Quantification Approach 2. This proposed revision preserves existing baseline definitions and methods allowing DSM to be used for control sites monitoring. Control sites are identified at time zero using remotely sensed and historical qualitative field management data. Continuation of baseline management is checked through periodic remote monitoring of agricultural practices, with routine validation to ensure quality. Areas that no longer meet control-site criteria are replaced within a dynamically matched baseline site. DSM would generate spatially explicit soil organic carbon estimates, with soil sampling in baseline areas retained under VT0014.
