The proposed revision expands the methodology to include Human Controlled Wetlands (HCW), where tidal water flow is actively managed through human intervention to optimize carbon sequestration and ecosystem function.
Summary of Development
On April 1, 2026, the development of this revision was rejected per the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process (PDF) due to the following reasons:
- VM0033 imposes no explicit restrictions on the proposed activity
- Available resources, including funding, Verra staff time, and external expertise, are limited
- Does not satisfy the following criteria as fully as other methodology ideas:
- are broadly applicable (i.e., cover the range of potential technologies, processes, and geographical regions that may apply to related projects)
- have high climate change mitigation potential
