VM0001 v1.1 applies to project activities that install infrared, real-time leak detection systems on U.S. retail direct expansion refrigeration equipment systems to reduce leaks of HFC refrigerants.
The proposed revision seeks to expand the list of leak detection technologies to include alternative sensors and software-based leak detection, broaden the scope for global applicability, and simplify the approach for determining the maximum leak rate allowed for crediting (cap baseline).
SUMMARY OF DEVELOPMENT
The proposed methodology is being developed by Therm Solutions, Inc. (external) and follows the process for major revisions with an independent assessment performed by a technical expert, given the nature of the technical changes and specificity to the refrigerant sector (see Sections 2.1.2 and 4.2.3-4.2.6 of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process, v4.3 (PDF)). Verra hosted a public consultation from February 5, 2024, to March 8, 2024.
