The proposed methodology revision applies to project activities that recover and destroy the methane in the methane-rich vapours from hydrocarbon storage tanks within existing oil production facilities, oil and gas pre-treatment facilities, gas processing plants, oil treatment facilities, and liquid hydrocarbon storage tanks and loading stations, by use of vapour recovery units. This revision intends to improve accuracy and implementation experience.
Summary of Development:
The methodology idea note was submitted by ICA-Finance AS (external).
On April 1, 2026, the development of this methodology was put on hold per the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process (PDF). Verra will consider resuming the development once the following criteria are met:
- Resources are available to support the methodology development process (including funding, Verra staff time, and external expertise).
- The proposal satisfies the following criteria as fully as other methodology ideas:
- Has high climate change mitigation potential;
Verra will reassess whether to resume the development of this methodology in Q3 2027.
