ACM0022 applies to project activities that implement and operate new plants for the treatment of fresh waste that would otherwise be disposed of in a solid waste disposal site (SWDS). The proposed revision expands the scope to include:

  • Conventional composting and associated N2O emissions as a possible baseline scenario
  • Emission reductions associated with using insect composting byproducts to displace high emissions-intensive animal feed products.

Summary of Development

On April 9, 2025, the development of this methodology was put on hold.

On March 30, 2026, the development of this methodology revision was rejected per the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process (PDF) due to the following reasons:

  • Available resources, including funding, Verra staff time, and external expertise, are limited.
  • Lower climate change mitigation potential compared to other methodology ideas
  • Scope may require development of a new methodology as opposed to a revision of an existing methodology
