This module is for quantifying emission reductions achieved by projects aimed at preventing/reducing unplanned forest degradation. This module is applicable to forests that would be degraded in the absence of project activity. Degradation in the baseline would be caused by unplanned/illegal logging of timber for commercial sale, local, or domestic use, fuel-wood collection, charcoal production, or anthropogenic forest fires.
This module is envisioned to be part of the REDD methodology VM0048. As such, the module will adopt a jurisdictional, nested approach for setting projects’ baselines and will be fully aligned with the already existent VMD0055 (for projects that prevent unplanned deforestation) and the currently under development module for projects that prevent planned deforestation.

- General interest – Stakeholders interested in developing projects that this module might enable are encouraged to reach out and share their estimates and plans for future project development. This helps Verra to better understand the demand for this proposed new module
