The proposed methodology applies to High-Performance Compute (HPC) Curtailment project activities. It generates GHG emission avoidances by automating the voluntary shutdown of energy-intensive industrial loads (e.g., Bitcoin Miners, AI Clusters) based on real-time marginal emissions or congestion signals that identify intervals of high marginal emissions intensity.
Summary of Development
On June 9, 2026, the development of this methodology was rejected per the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process (PDF). After careful review, Verra determined that the proposal’s climate impact was not as high as that of other ideas. Verra will therefore not proceed this approach to the full methodology development process at this time.
