Methodology for utilizing co-products from the human food supply chain in combination with animal manure management systems to reduce GHG on livestock farms

The proposed methodology applies to project activities that replace high carbon feed with low carbon feed on indoor animal farms, whilst mitigating slurry manure storage and spreading, through evaporation.

The methodology idea note was rejected by Verra, as per Section 3.1.7 of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process, v4.4 (PDF). The decision was based on the proposal’s overlap with existing methodologies, low climate change mitigation potential compared to other proposals, and unmitigable risks associated with food safety, biosecurity, and animal welfare.
