The proposed methodology applies to project activities that produce chemical products using raw materials derived from the chemical depolymerization of waste plastics. GHG emissions are avoided by diverting plastics from incineration and substituting fossil-based virgin feedstocks with recycled equivalents.
Summary of Development
On March 29, 2026, the development of this methodology was rejected per the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process (PDF) due to the following reasons:
- Available resources, including funding, Verra staff time, and external expertise, are limited.
- Lower climate change mitigation potential compared to other methodology ideas.
