Methodology for Supporting Watershed Protection Activities Avoiding Water Management Infrastructure Upgrade and Operations Emissions

The proposed new methodology applies to project activities that reduce point and nonpoint source contamination of watersheds, thereby reducing GHG emissions from electricity use, consumables, and infrastructure construction associated with downstream drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater management and treatment. The proposed methodology applies to a broad range of technologies, processes, and geographies.

The methodology idea note was rejected by Verra, per Sections 3.1.5(1) and 3.1.5(2) of the Methodology Development and Review Process, 4.2 (PDF). The decision was based on low climate change mitigation potential, issues with regulatory surplus, and the additionality of the proposed project activities.
