The proposed methodology applies to High-Performance Compute (HPC) Curtailment project activities. It generates GHG emission avoidances by automating the voluntary shutdown of energy-intensive industrial loads (e.g., Bitcoin Miners, AI Clusters) based on real-time marginal emissions or congestion signals that identify intervals of high marginal emissions intensity.
Summary of Development
On March 29, 2026 the development of this methodology was rejected per the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process (PDF) due to the following reasons:
- Available resources, including funding, Verra staff time, and external expertise, are limited.
- Complexity associated with idea
- Potential risks associated with leakage
- Lower climate change mitigation potential compared to other methodology ideas
