Verra has opened a public consultation on a minor revision (methodology development ID #M0333) to Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) methodology ACM0002: Grid-connected electricity generation from renewable sources, v22.0 (external). The revised methodology would be published in the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program. The consultation will run from June 26 through July 28, 2025.
ACM0002 applies to grid-connected renewable energy generation project activities—including solar photovoltaic, wind, geothermal, hydro, wave, and tidal—that may or may not involve Energy Storage Systems (ESS).
The proposed revision to ACM0002 includes the following updates:
- Introduction of a list of eligible countries for project implementation of various renewable energy technologies (specifically solar photovoltaic, geothermal, and onshore and offshore wind). A corresponding proposed update to Table 1 of the VCS Standard that would allow methodologies to complement the rules for eligible project activities and specify geographic applicability conditions. As a result, this change to AMC0002 would broaden the geographical applicability of this methodology (to hitherto underserved regions) and promotes the installation of renewable energy technologies in regions where carbon finance can help bridge the viability gap and stimulate greater market penetration, thereby catalyzing the clean energy transition.
- Replacement of certain CDM tools (TOOL01, TOOL02, TOOL05, and TOOL07) with tools in the VCS Program (VT0008, VT0009, VT0010 and VT0011, respectively). These tools pertain to additionality and quantification measures related to electricity and are to be used in conjunction with ACM0002.
Once this revision of AMC0002 is published as a VCS methodology, project proponents must use it in conjunction with the latest version of ACM0002 which is still applicable in its majority (apart from the revisions).
For a streamlined project submission process, Verra encourages proponents to use the digital versions of methodologies as they become available. A digitalized version of ACM0002 is already available in the Verra Project Hub, and Verra will digitalize this revision upon or soon after final publication.
