WASHINGTON – Oct. 30, 2025 | Verra’s methodology for improved agricultural land management has been approved by the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) as meeting the Core Carbon Principles (CCPs). This will enable the generation of tens of millions of high-integrity carbon credits from farming projects worldwide.

The methodology, VM0042 Improved Agricultural Land Management, v2.2, quantifies greenhouse gas emission reductions and soil organic carbon-based removals resulting from regenerative agriculture, including activities such as reduced tillage, improved fertilizer use, residue and water management, diversified cropping, and effective grazing systems.

There are currently around 200 projects listed on the Verra Registry under earlier versions of VM0042, which together have the potential to issue an estimated 126 million tonnes of emission reductions and removals annually. Projects using earlier versions may update to VM0042, v2.2 to qualify for CCP labeling.

“This is an important milestone for farmers and project developers around the world who are already leading the shift toward regenerative agriculture. ICVCM's approval ensures that the carbon markets recognize innovation, and reward leadership. It will go a long way to help scale the market with integrity, transparency, and impact.”

Mandy Rambharos, CEO, Verra

Verra has also digitalized VM0042, v2.1, making it available through the Verra Project Hub, with the digital version of VM0042, v2.2 expected to be released in the coming weeks. The digital version streamlines project submission, validation, and verification, enabling faster registration and issuance, and enhanced data quality. This is part of Verra’s broader effort to make climate impact traceable, verifiable, and efficient through digital tools.
