Verra Views

As the markets evolve, so does our thinking. Below are the most recent pieces that offer a window into the insights of Verra’s many thought leaders as they grapple with this complicated, ever-evolving sector.

Congratulations to Climate Impact Partners and Rizome Bamboo on completing registration of their RIZOME Kawayan Project (Verra Project 4788) with the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program! Located in Mindanao, Philippines, this is the first certified project in Asia that uses Verra’s innovative Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation (ARR) methodology, VM0047.

VM0047 is a rigorous VCS methodology designed to quantify the climate benefits of ARR projects. It is the first nature-based methodology that uses remote sensing to establish a dynamic performance benchmark, enabling robust, science-backed carbon accounting for this important carbon removal approach.

The RIZOME Kawayan Project restores degraded land with giant bamboo. Growing giant bamboo removes carbon from the atmosphere, and quantifying and selling credits for the sequestered carbon supports local Indigenous communities. The project supports multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals, including poverty reduction, gender equality, and clean water access. Over the next 20 years, it is expected to remove over 25,000 tonnes of carbon per year.

If you are part of a Verra-registered project, we invite you to share your story! From milestone credit issuances to moments of community impact, we want to hear what your project has accomplished. We will feature selected stories across our website, on our social media channels, and in future issues of this newsletter.

Interested in participating in this initiative? Please send an email to communications@verra.org with your project ID and a brief description of the impact you would like to highlight.

Verra Staff at Events

Next month, Mandy Rambharos, chief executive officer, and Heather McEwan, regional representative, Africa and the Middle East, will attend the Carbon Markets Africa Summit (CMAS) (external). Launched by the award-winning VUKA Group, CMAS is a purpose-driven, high-level continental gathering that will take place from October 21 to 23, 2025, in Johannesburg.

Designed as Africa’s flagship platform for carbon finance, the event brings together policymakers, investors, standards bodies, developers, and corporates to drive practical, inclusive climate action and unlock Africa’s carbon value at scale.

The upcoming CMAS program features the continent’s entire carbon market value chain in what is a compelling combination of successful early carbon market movers, climate-finance-ready projects, and regulatory bodies, as well as global institutional development organizations and investors. Download the program brochure (external) now to discover the expert speakers and diverse discussions.
