Verra has updated its delivery schedule for REDD project activity data allocation, a component of VMD0055 Estimation of Emission Reductions from Avoiding Unplanned Deforestation, v1.0, a module under VM0048 Reducing Deforestation and Forest Degradation, v1.0. The new schedule allows the necessary time for a thorough review of this data to ensure that it meets Verra’s high quality requirements such as the appropriate use of samples from buffer and exclusion zones, accurate classification of any considered deforestation instances, and the inclusion of maps reflecting the desired resolution requirements.
Verra will release the high-integrity REDD activity data allocation in a phased approach as data becomes available (see below). Data for REDD projects in priority jurisdictions, where many REDD projects are concentrated, will be published beginning in October. While Verra is committed to releasing data as quickly as possible, this is a new and complex process, and the timeline should be considered as estimations.
The phased approach is enabling Verra to focus on smaller data sets and troubleshoot roadblocks in real time. It has also allowed Verra to gather and learn from early experiences on the new baseline setting approach under VM0048 and refine the implementation of this approach for other jurisdictions.
