The proposed new methodology applies to project activities that produce methanol from waste biomass feedstocks. Eligible activities include collecting, processing, transporting, and using waste biomass to displace coal or natural gas as the feedstock for methanol production. Emissions reductions are achieved by avoiding emissions released from the anaerobic decomposition or burning of the waste biomass and through a less emissions-intensive methanol production process relative to conventional feedstocks. The proposed new methodology is globally applicable.
Summary Development
- The methodology was proposed by LONGi Green Technology Co., Ltd. under an older version of the VCS Methodology Development and Review Process (MDRP) (PDF).
- In December 2024, the development of this methodology was put on hold.
- In March 2026, Verra reassessed the priority of methodologies under development and decided to keep this proposal on hold.
- Verra will reassess whether to resume the development of this methodology in Q1 2027.
