Methodology for Avoiding Carbon Emissions through Refurbishment and Reuse of Electronic Gadgets

 
The proposed methodology covers project activities that collect and refurbish used electronic devices such as mobile handsets, tablets, and laptops. Devices are refurbished at dedicated facilities and sold through existing or newly developed marketplaces. GHG emission reductions are achieved by avoiding the production of new devices and associated energy consumption.

The concept note was rejected by Verra, as per Section 3.1.5(2) and 3.2.5(3) of the Methodology Development and Review Process, 4.2 (PDF). The decision was based on low climate change potential and technical inconsistencies that were not satisfactorily addressed.
