Vote for Verra in Environmental Finance’s VCM Rankings

Each year, Environmental Finance holds a vote to identify voluntary carbon market (VCM) leaders, including project developers, traders, and service providers.

Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program, the world’s largest voluntary greenhouse gas (GHG) crediting program, has won the award for “Best GHG Crediting Programme” (formerly “Best Voluntary Carbon Standard”) eleven times since 2012. Additionally, the Verra Registry was voted “Best Registry Provider” every year since 2021 when this category was first introduced.

As the leading standards setter for the voluntary carbon market, we have an enormous responsibility in the marketplace—and we take it seriously. In September 2023, to ensure that Verra continues to effectively advance climate action and sustainable development, we launched a new era of scaling our impact, engaging more actively with our stakeholders, and ensuring we operate our programs effectively and efficiently.

We identified three thematic areas to focus on: operational excellence, enhanced program integrity and impact, and accountability. Since then, we have kept our stakeholders apprised of our achievements and new commitments in each area through regular updates (see links below).

Below, we highlight some of our recent accomplishments under each thematic area:

• A commitment to a multiyear digitalization initiative, which included launching the Project Tracker, the first functionality of the Verra Project Hub
• Several initiatives to strengthen our project review processes and various stakeholder support functions, including the launch of a new Stakeholder Support Team and the publication of service-level agreements
• The launch of a new validation/verification body performance management program

• The publication of Verra’s transformative REDD methodology
• Continued efforts to strengthen our VCS Program by launching a new cohort of the VCS Program Advisory Group and by laying the foundation for version 5 of the program

• Continued expansion of our work with governments around the world
• Consultations focused on learning from and engaging with Indigenous Peoples and local communities to inform Verra’s Nature Framework and its safeguards
• Stepping up our work on plastics through continued engagement in the negotiations around a Global Plastics Treaty and the launch of an innovative plastic waste reduction-linked bond
