WASHINGTON — July 3, 2025 | Verra announced today that Statton Hammock has joined the organization as its new general counsel. In this role, Statton will provide legal advice and guidance to Verra, managing its legal risks and ensuring its compliance with all pertinent laws and regulations. He will also oversee contract negotiation, corporate governance, and intellectual property protection.
Statton’s career reflects his passion for addressing climate change and helping organizations pursue a path to sustainability and carbon neutrality. He brings over 20 years of legal leadership experience, as well as extensive knowledge of carbon markets, carbon credit transactions, and investment in nature-based carbon sequestration projects. Most recently, he served as associate general counsel at Catona Climate, a carbon project finance company.
Statton received his Bachelor of Arts in government and politics from the University of Virginia, a Juris Doctor from the University of Maine School of Law, and a graduate certificate in sustainability studies from UCLA’s Institute of the Environment and Sustainability. Statton is also a Terra.do Climate Fellow, a climate ambassador for Climate Changemakers, and a board advisor to the Future Climate Collective.
