Verra has released a new version (v1.2) of Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Methodology VM0001 Refrigerant Leak Detection. This constitutes a minor revision to VM0001, v1.1.
VM0001 quantifies the greenhouse gas emission reductions generated by reducing leaks of hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants from commercial refrigeration systems in the United States.
With the latest updates, VM0001, v1.2 includes a wider range of eligible technologies, making it usable by more projects. Specifically, the updates include the following:
- Allowing for the use of leak detection technologies other than infrared
- Adding an annex with details on the uncertainty assessment of emission reductions
Verra held a public consultation on this revision from February 5 to March 8, 2024. The methodology was developed by Therm Solutions, Inc. (external) and Verra.
